2×4 Halloween Black Cats
I love making fun things out of wood blocks.
It’s charming to see what was once a solid block of wood come alive into a creature or being.
I have my favorites of course.
My Easter bunnies are too cute.
But, these 2×4 Halloween black cats are just too cute.
I love their fun ears and their big pink noses.
I like their copper wire whiskers.
I like that they were an easy weekend project.
Aren’t they just adorable!?
My crow is a little disheveled, I think the kitties have their eye on him. Easy prey.
So you need a 2×4 cut into pieces that are 11.5 and 8 inches long.
Cut a V shape into each one. That will be the ears.
I gave them a light sanding, then I spray painted them flat black.
Once dry, I sanded them, getting back to the wood color on the edges.
After sanding, wipe them down with a barely damp cloth, then let them dry again.
For the nose, I found this thin wood. I couldn’t find my basswood. But that’s what you should use. Basswood.
Get it at your craft store.
It scores easily with a craft knife.
Just cut a triangle shape.
Use an X-acto knife and go along your lines several times until you cut through.
Then sand the edges down and paint with a bright pink paint.
Regret your bright pink paint, go to sand, then realize that the black paint on the sandpaper looks good over the bright pink.
It helps tone down that pink some.
Add two wiggle eyes, and cut strands of copper wire for whiskers.
Use hot glue to glue on the whiskers first, then add the nose and at the top of the nose. Add the wiggle eyes.
Tie on some raffia around the block, so they look good and Autumn-ish. I am good at making up word-ishes.
Display them! They would be just darling on a porch or entrance way.
