Awesome Cut Out Image Shirt
Hi! Back today with an awesome cut out image shirt that is sure to be the hip and cool design to wear this Halloween. Spooky and creepy, you can have feathered wings and a skull cut into your shirt, allowing for a cool pop of color to show through.
I had seen this design on Pinterest, but no instructions, no pattern. Well, that’s not gonna stop me. I just took my handy dandy notepad and looked up some skull images on Google. I hand drew my skull, but you can trace one, or photo copy an image. You can also find coloring book pages to use. Like this....Skull.
Here is my design. I drew on the feather parts, but honestly after cutting the first one, discovered that it’s just easier to freehand cut them.
What I first did was to cut the collar and half of the sleeves off a new sweatshirt. Minion #2 tried it on, to make sure that it was cut to be comfortable. I left the bottom hem on the sweatshirt.
S’all good, yo. So I sent the minion off and sat down to work. I traced my design ( I scribbled on the back of my drawing at the lines – then traced over to leave a mark). I used a watercolor pencil to do this, and it showed up better than a colored pencil.
I started cutting out the skull first. One thing I learned was to leave a good amount of thickness of fabric for the cuts.
After I finished the skull, I started on the feathers. But I found that just pinching the scissors with the fabric inside, created a pointed oval shape that was easy to cut.
From that, I just cut in the general shape of wings. Once I was finished, I wet the fabric which made the white watercolor pencil disappear. I then used a lint roller to get the fuzzies and the pencil shavings off the fabric.
Now it’s ready to wear.
