Banana Caramel Cream Pie
Finishing up Pie Day week today!
I’ve saved what I think is the best pie for the last pie!
I pretty much love caramel. If I have any in the house, I will toss it on some sliced bananas and eat that as a treat.
Even better with some whipped cream and toffee bits. HEAVEN!
This banana caramel cream pie is incredible! All my favorites in one pie!
I love, love a fresh pie crust with a cream pie, it gives it so much dimension having that crispness with the creamy filling. Perfection!
First, you start out with a pie crust. Make your own or use store bought. They make some great ones now a days.
I was trying a new recipe so mine is homemade.
Pierce it all over and bake it off at 425 degrees for about 10 minutes, until it is lightly browned.
Did you know, you can make caramel without actually mixing or stirring anything?
It’s SOOO easy! Simply take a can of sweetened condensed milk, remove the label and place it in a pan of water.
The water must come over the top of the can, heat the water to a slow boil and allow to slowly boil for 2.5 hours.
You can do less or more, less (2 hours) will give you a lighter thinner caramel,
More (3 hours) will give you a firmer, darker caramel.
I boiled mine for about 2 hours, because I wanted a thinner caramel that would drizzle.
Remove it from the heat, dump out the hot water and add cold water to the pot.
Wait about 15 minutes for the can to cool, and you can then open it.
DO NOT OPEN WHILE IT’S HOT!!!! The caramel will be under pressure in the can.
To make the pie:
1 package banana cream pudding
2 cups milk
1 Large container of Cool Whip
4 ripe bananas
1 can of caramel from sweetened condensed milk
Make the pudding as directed, using pudding mix and milk. While it is still very unset, add half the container of Cool Whip to the pudding mix and stir well.
Cut your bananas into bite-sized pieces.
Then drizzle 3/4 of the can of caramel into the banana pudding mix and stir well.
Place the pudding mix into the cooled pie crust.
Cover the pudding mix with the rest of the Cool Whip.
Now drizzle the remainder of the caramel over the top of the pie.
Add toffee pieces.
