Bringing Back Splatter Paint
Usually I start out a post with a few sentences, then lead into my project. But these splatter paint shoes turned out really neat, and how cool do they look under a black light? FABULOUS! And they are pretty simple.
I used a pair of canvas shoes. I always called this style boat shoes. But they are pretty cheap, got them for around $6 at a super store. I bought some neon paint colors at the craft store. they were about $.80 each.
First, I set up a spot in the garage to paint. Find somewhere where it’s ok to get paint, a dry day in the grass would be a good spot as well. Add some duct tape around the bottom edge of the shoes if you want them to stay white.
At first, I tried to flick the paint on with a brush, but that wasn’t the look I wanted. So I dipped my brush into the paint, and slung the paint on. This could be a fun process for an older kid to do. Basically just fling the paint and see where it lands.
I didn’t really like the purple and orange, so those colors ended up not being in my last few coats.
Keep going with the paint until you are happy. Just be aware if the paint is starting to bleed together to take a break and let it dry before continuing on.
My hot pink dried more of a hot orange color, but s’ok, cause when the
kids minions came home, they both loudly exclaimed. COOOL! so I knew they were a hit.
And then we turned on the teen’s lamp that has a black light. and falling in love with the splatter paint shoes was done. I am really fortunate at this time that they both wear the same size, because the fighting over these shoes would have been historic.
Totally unique shoes, for some fun loving kids.
