Carrots and Dirt a Sweet Snack
Yum, carrots and dirt, doesn’t that sound so yummy? Um, believe me, it is. That is, if you think about the carrots as Chocolate Covered Pretzels and the dirt as crumbled Oreos. Carrots and dirt a sweet snack!
Interested? Here’s how…
You’ll need -
Almond Bark- or vanilla chips
gel food coloring and shortening.
Before you get started, take two small bowls, and add 1 tablespoon of shortening in them. Melt the shortening and add your GEL food color. I do this because adding the gel food color directly to the melted white chocolate could cause it to seize, which is what happens when you add water to chocolate. Instead, adding it into the melted shortening and mixing in it allows the water to be diluted more evenly into the chocolate to prevent seizing.
Once your shortening is melted, add a few drops of the gel food color.
Melt your chocolate, I heat mine in 30 second increments until it is almost melted, then allow it to set and melt more outside of the microwave, stirring well until there are no lumps.
You need green.
And you need orange.
Lay out a couple of sheet pans and cover them with parchment paper. First dip the pretzel rods into the green. Put the tray into the freezer for a few minutes until hard.
Now dip them into the orange. Once done the orange, take your spoon and add thin lines of the melted chocolate over the orange to create the ‘carrot lines’.
You can freeze these again for fast set up time.
Take about 1/4 of the Oreos out of the package, put them into a Ziploc bag ( gallon) and use a rolling pin or glass to roll over the cookies until they are mushed.
To serve, put the cookie crumbs on a plate (or in a mason jar) and add the carrots.
Gift these adorable treats in a mason jar, add a clear baggie over to keep the goodies in place, and gift away. Makes an adorable Spring treat!
