Funky Fun Clipboard
You know, altering clipboards used to be the fun thing to do. But I think the ideas kind of ran out, you have to create with them to make them useful, and how often do we use them? I know teachers and coaches do. Maybe office staff? I don’t know. But my kiddo got pretty excited about using one when I did a recent clean through of my schtuff. After we dusted the cobwebs off- lol- not really, they were in a drawer under piles and piles of items I’ve bought for altering.
Minion #2 and I figured that we could alter it pretty easy with some duct tape. While we were creating cover, we came up with some fun ideas to make it just that much prettier. I think because it’s a legal sized board, that it allowed us the extra room to fancy it up.
You know, I figure that with some color changes, this could be a fun beginning of school gift. I let Annalise pick all the colors of duct tape, and one big chance I think would be super neat would be to have a chalkboard inset into the square space instead of more duct tape. But you can personalize this as you want for you.
You’ll need a legal size clipboard- these are about 14 inches long, duct tape in your choice of colors, silicon glue and gems.
First, adhere the duct tape along the large edge.
Add a small piece of tape at top of clipboard, you need an exacto to cut around the metal parts.
Just use your finger to rub the duct tape around the metal part, and you can see where your outline is, to cut around.
Do the same on the other side.
Then simply lift the clip part, and run a piece of duct tape to cover the small strip edges. Once that is done, just fill in the center with strips of another color, or this is where you can paint your blackboard paint.
To add a frame around the center, tear your strips of tape in half, add to the clip board, lift up the pieces where they intersect and add a 45 degree cut. Then pull of the excess pieces of tape that overlap the corner.
Your clipboard, plain but finished.
To get fancy, make a ruffled border.
Tear a strip of duct tape in half.
This will adhere your ruffle, so put this to the side.
Take a long strip of duct tape, about 30 inches, and fold it on itself. If you need to , create two strips and tape them together, this double sided strip is your ruffle piece. You will accordion fold it so that you have a ruffle, adhere it to the bottom part of the clipboard and adhere in place with your half strips of duct tape.
Here is a close up of the ruffle.
I also added a heart cut heart. I found that difficult because of the stickiness of the tape.
Next, I wanted to dress up that plain metal clip. I got out some big gems I had and some silicone glue.
just layer them on, with the big gems first, then fill in with smaller gems.
BLINGGGGGGG! Don’t you just love it. I think just putting on the bling is enough to find a use for this fancy schmancy clipboard.
If you make this for a teacher, think about school colors, or the teacher’s favorite colors!
And here is it…. finished!
