Pixelated Perler Bead Hair Bows
If your kiddos are as into Minecraft as my youngest minion is, they will adore these girlie nods to the game. Minion#2 is always looking for a cute hair clip to add to her long tresses. And we have loads of Perler beads just sitting around, not being used any more because the minions are getting older. So, I thought it would be cute to make these pixelated perler bead hair bows.
You don’t need a lot of supplies, some Perler Beads and plate to design on, an iron with parchment paper, and a hot glue gun and clip to make into a bow.
I found this basic square bead plate that I was able to use to make a small bow.
Here is a photo of one of the bead bows before melting, I added the outline color in green, and the inside color in turquoise.
I set my iron on medium heat, and lay the parchment paper over top of the beads on the plate. I only let that warm enough that the beads stick to it. Careful not to leave it on too long, as it can also melt the tips on the plate. Not that that happened to me, not at all. Just in case, you know, it might have happened.
Pull the iron off, then check your bow. It should pull off the plate easily, if not, let it cool a bit. Careful of burns here!
This is pretty much what you will have. The longer you leave the iron on, the more softened the beads gets and more melted into each other as well as getting flatter.
Then take your completed bows and add a hair clip to the back. I put a line of glue, then add the clip. and within a few seconds I push up on the opener end so that the glue doesn’t seal the clip shut.
The fun thing about these is any colors are fine. You can make a bunch for a party favor or gifts for friends. How cute!
