Snow Cute Snow Men

I love cushy cuddly things. How cute that these adorable guys/gals are made with a couple pair of socks. This is a cute craft to make with the kids, and they will cherish having their own cuddly snowmen to play with. If not, perhaps you need some adorable snow decor for that perfect spot in your home. For just a couple bucks, you can make a whole set of these guys to have around the house.

I love most that each one has it’s own look and personality. Fat, short, tall, pear shaped. you could make dozens of them and they would all still be different. Snow cute snow men!

What you need is a clean sock. I cut off the top of the sock. The bend of the heel is trash, and keep that bottom part of the sock for another craft- coming soon.

Take and sew a quick stitch around the top of the sock, but do not tie it off. Leave a couple 6-8 inches extra of thread on both the start and finish of your sock. I added a knot at the end so I didn’t pull through. You can grab this later.

Take a piece of string – I use DMC floss, and tie it around the cut off part of the sock. I make sure all the cut parts are in the thread, then tied it tight.

Now fill your sock with fiber fill ( stuffing) but do not fill it all the way. On top of the stuffing, put in regular rice. You can also use dried beans. Or plastic pellets if you can find them.

Now pull both ends (the knotted side and the leftover end) and cinch the sock together, tying a tight knot.

For the snowmen hats, I used another set of colored socks and cut off the heel.

Use matching floss to tie off the cut end.

And that gives your snowmen their cute hats.

Pull the sock down tight over the snowman. The rice part is the bottom – the stuffed part is the top. And stretch the hat down.

I then folded the edge of the sock up, to make a hat brim. At this point, tucking your hot glue gun under the hat and putting a few dots of hot glue will keep the hat in place.

For their scarves, I cut another sock from heel to toe, leaving one part attached.

Put this part around the snowman’s neck ( the attached end). Then pull the two ends through the loop, kind of like you knot a scarf on your neck. This gives him a scarf. again, give a couple dots of hot glue to secure the scarf in place.

Now to decorate them. I added a button at each scarf loop to secure them in place. And I trimmed a couple snips up the end of the scarf to give the impression of a knitted scarf. The ends curled charmingly!

For their noses. I used Sculpey clay in tomato red. Made little rope like shapes, then pointed one end, and flattened the other. After baking for 15 minutes and cooling, they were ready to use. I used hot glue to add the noses to their faces. A little chalk pinked their cheeks and I used black gems for eyes. Each snowmen got some colorful buttons and they were ready for display!

The rice helps to balance them on the bottoms, they can be mushed and smooshed into a position!

Hi Sandy, I used adult size socks, Womens I think. Just not kids size. Probably 6-8 size. Not sure, but the idea works for any size you would like to work with.
