Toilet Tube Animals

So, I like to recycle. and I know how hard it is to find crafts for kids that actually create something that they can do something with, like play with their macaroni wreath after they finished making it. And you’ll be picking up broken noodles off the carpet and out of the soles of your feet.  So I like toilet paper rolls, they are plentiful and you can feel good about recycling them instead of just tossing them in the trash, or the recycling bin.

You can do some prep work ahead of time. I just wanna note that this toilet tube animals craft is perfectly fine for older kids to make as well. And adults too. nothing wrong with playing a little pretend with the minions.

First, you are going to need

  • paint- I use acrylic- you can use poster if you have it.  and a brush to paint with
  • paper – colored paper, scrapbooking paper etc…
  • glue
  • punches- if you have them, they make creating the creatures a lot easier.

first things first, press down the tube at the top so that it’s closed, this creates an ear point at the top.

Each animal is a solid color, you can paint them realistic colors, or fantasy colors. Elephants aren’t green, dogs aren’t really red. etc..

I do not have a step by step for each animal. I will tell you what shapes I used to create them. Paint all your creatures and let them dry before moving ahead.

red dog is made with two flower punches for feet- fold the other side up and glue to the inside of the bottom. Eyes are two white circles, and two black ( you can also color the black with a marker instead).Add a little oval for a tongue. Two red circles and black circle for his face. Add dots with marker. His tail is an S shape glued to the back, and I added two teardrop shapes for his ears. A simple strip and circle make his collar.

Kitty’s tail is a soft S shape.

These are just a few ideas that I came up with in a couple hours. The toilet tube animal possibilities are virtually endless!

This is one of the best rainy day(or any day!) crafts for elementary school aged kids I’ve seen in a while! I have done so many crafts with my daughters, that I’ve recently been stumped on finding some thing new to do with them. My 10 year old twin girls loved making and playing with these toilet paper roll animals! They loved your pics of them and had a wonderful time making their own. Great way to occupy a couple of hours on a rainy day. Thanks so much for sharing!

    • cmiy says:

Hi Susan, that is such high praise, thank you so much. I am going to try to create new ones this year to add on to this as a craft, it’s been very popular! I’m so glad your girls were successful in creating them, and that they enjoyed this!

Thanks for taking the time to post all the photos with descriptions. I was hoping that possibly there might be a template for each but alas, I will have to do some work myself.:( Lol Thanks for the ideas!
